HEE Training Resources for Care Home Staff

Resources Background

Wessex and the West of England Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) and West Hampshire CCG, funded by Health Education England, collaborated to produce a series of free videos and e-learning materials to support staff working in care homes to care for residents who are at risk of deterioration.

The training materials were launched just over a year ago and cover topics including spotting the signs of deterioration and the NEWS early warning score, taking measurements such as blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation, and structured communication and escalation.

These videos have recently reached over 250,000 views on YouTube and we’d like to promote this achievement.

The online training for care home staff supports the ambitions of the national Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement Programme (part of the Patient Safety Collaborative workstream).

They have been described as having ‘the potential to save many lives and tens of millions of pounds.’

Mildred Mhlanga, Registered Manager, Silva Care described how the videos have helped her staff
