Dr Hilary Flett
Governing Body GP member
I qualified as a doctor in 1988 and trained to be a GP in my home town of Liverpool. I have been a part time GP principal at Mill Street Medical Centre, in St Helens town centre for the last 20 years, so I didn't move very far!
Throughout my medical career, I have always had what is now called a 'portfolio career'- that means not just doing general practice, but doing other jobs as well. Over the years I have been a GP specialist in endoscopy, a Forensic Medical Examiner and also a Mum, the latter role ongoing and the hardest job of all!
Three years ago I was voted by my GP colleagues onto NHS St Helens Clinical Commission Group, where I am the Clinical lead for planned care, (that means specialist appointments both in hospital and the wider community setting) and also the Chair of the Finance, Governance and Risk committee. Part of my role is to ensure clinicians provide high quality care within the finances that we have available.
Outside of work, I am a taxi driver for my children and I enjoy family holidays and the Great British Bake Off!
